Columbia, SC – The Columbia Urban League is proud to share the success of its Back-to-School Drive-Thru event, held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 2805 N Main St., Columbia, SC.
Nearly 200 bookbags filled with essential school supplies were distributed to students and families, helping them prepare for a strong start to the school year.
We extend our sincere thanks to Walmart for sponsoring the event and volunteering on-site to help distribute supplies and support families throughout the day. Special thanks also go to the Columbia Urban League staff and young professionals for their dedicated volunteer service, and to the officers who came out to support the event and engage with the community.
We are also incredibly grateful to the local McDonald’s for generously providing breakfast for our volunteers!
“This event shows the power of community,” said J.T. McLawhorn, President and CEO of the Columbia Urban League. “It truly takes a village to uplift our youth and prepare them for success. We are proud to work alongside dedicated partners and volunteers who believe in investing in the next generation.”
The Columbia Urban League remains committed in its mission to empower families and strengthen communities through service, advocacy, and opportunity.
