The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Keeping the Legacy Alive Breakfast is held on Dr. King’s holiday to celebrate his continuing legacy. This year, the Keynote Speaker for the INVITATION ONLY event will be Former Governor David Beasley, the 113th Governor of South Carolina.
Each year, The Breakfast gathers diverse stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds, communities, and jobs with the goal of trying to find common ground. It is an opportunity to promote the need of diversity and awareness in the workplace and in society, and to remind the varied leaders of the importance of embracing a commitment to diversity and social justice.
“We have to engage the stakeholders, educate them, have dialogue about equal opportunity and social justice, and show them how Dr. King’s legacy has benefited non-minorities,” Mr. McLawhorn says. “For example, we explain that the dismantling of segregation opened the economic floodgates and non-minorities have been the greatest beneficiaries.”
Dedicated to a civil rights icon who changed the global approach to justice, humanity, and civility, this event is a call to action to promote a beloved community that fosters inclusion, social, and economic justice for all.
